Iditarod fan Nancy Alstrand greets a dog team as they wait to run at the ceremonial start of the 43rd Iditarod dog sled race in downtown Anchorage. Alstrand flies to Alaska each year to visit her brother and attend the start of the Iditarod. 79 mushers made their way 11 miles through the slushy streets of Anchorage in unseasonably warm weather and early rain. This year’s official re-start will begin in Fairbanks because of poor trail conditions in Southcentral Alaska.
